The Mediterranean's premier development
La Baraquette, in the Languedoc region of the South of France, is the Mediterranean’s most exciting new property development. Thelocation of the land is unsurpassed, with magnificent views over the Thau Lagoon and the Mediterranean beyond. Set beside La Baraquette, a beautifully landscaped park
will create a green oasis of peace and tranquility.
A 5-star hotel will offer 5-star facilities and 5-star cuisine. Unlike ‘gated’ communities, La Baraquette has been built as a very integrated extension of a lively port-village. And between the elegant modern villas of the estate, vineyards will weave their way into the daily life of the resort, and produce delicious wines.
Welcome to a moreauthentic luxury experience
Is authenticity the new luxury? At La Baraquette, we’re creating a seafront vineyard estate that goes beyond mere opulence to create a luxury resort that connects you to the authentic South of France.
A working vineyard will give you a unique insight into life as a wine maker. It will be planted and managed by the Seigneurie de Peyrat, one of the region's most respected wine estates. France’s best oysters, grown in the calm waters right in front of the estate, can be tasted and debated in the resort’s restaurant. Built as an extension of the southern French village of Marseillan, the estate ensures the bustle of bars, bakeries, fêtes and ferias are always only a short stroll away. And our Concierge staff have been briefed to do all they can to keep you off the ‘path well trodden’ and instead ensure you experience a more authentic South of France - be it securing tickets to the wine harvest festival or sending you on a private tour of the oyster tables.
It is La Baraquette’s location that makes this intimate connection with the local culture and natural environment possible. Only in theLanguedoc-Roussillon region, with its still-working wine villages and fishing ports and vast areas of untouched natural beauty, could we transport owners away from the stresses of modern life and take them back to a very French, very Mediterranean approach to living, where people take time to appreciate the simpler things.
“One of the best developments I have seen in many years.”
“Probably the first world-class sustainable seafront resort in the south of France.”
Perched on the edge of the beautiful Etang de Thau (a salt-water lagoon), La Baraquette offers truly jaw-dropping views past the vines of the estate and across the pearlescent waters of the lagoon. In the evening, sitting by your pool with a chilled glass of wine, you’ll watch the fishing boats darting between the oyster tables that fan out across the water, with the twinkling lights of Sète in the distance. To the south are the undulating terracotta rooves of the village. To the north, endless vineyards stretch out along the coast.
For those who expect
the very best
After a day of wine tasting in a château or relaxing with friends in one of the many beach clubs along the coast, you’ll come home to a place of calm and luxury. In the 5-star hotel, take an afternoon dip in the roof-top horizon pool or ease those worries away with a massage in the spa. Enjoy a delicious seafood meal at the hotel’s restaurant, served up with those amazing views. Or, as an owner at La Baraquette, slip in to the VIP lounge for cocktails and local home-made tapas, and enjoy membership of the estate's Wine Academy and Nautical Club. The estate will also feature a ‘Central Rendez-Vous’ of boutiques, a café, restaurant, art gallery and large wine-tasting cellar. This 'village within a village' will showcase the best of the local area - everything from oysters and wines to artworks and fashion.
The villas and apartments at La Baraquette have been designed by award-winning Slow Life Architects, based in Barcelona. Modern, elegant and designed to let in as much Mediterranean light as possible, they bring together local stone, wood and tiles to create light, clean, relaxing spaces. Waterfront andPatio Villas all have pools, and the villas andapartments are brimming with stylish kitchen appliances and sleek bathroom fittings. To ensure you explore the area with a certain panache, every property at La Baraquette comes with the option to buy a Citroën Méhari (a slice of France circa 1968) or an electric bike.
The South of France
is your oyster
The Etang de Thau is a veritable playground ofactivities and adventure. On the lagoon itself or in the sea just beyond, you can sail, windsurf or sea kayak to your heart’s content. Mile upon mile of beach, dotted with chic bars and clubs, lines the entire coastline of this part of France. And in the villages and towns on the lagoon, Mèze, Bouzigues and Sète, you’ll find some of France’s finest seafood.
Just in from the coast, a Mediterranean landscape of rolling vines punctuated by towering rocket pines and village spires stretches from the Rhône river down to the Pyrénées and the Spanish border. Here you can spend a day floating down the languid Canal du Midi, clambering over medieval castles, or getting lost in the hubbub of lively local markets. And the entire region is easy and inexpensive to get to - with five internationalairports within an hour’s drive away.
“This Cinderella of the south was once over-shadowed by gorgeous Provence and the brash Cote d'Azur. Now, she stands as their equal, displaying a discreet charm that her more-visited siblings lost long ago.”
